Several Walloon companies caused a sensation at the NAB Show (broadcasting and audiovisual communication trade fair), which took place in Las Vegas from 11 to 16 April. IntoPIX, based in Louvain-La-Neuve, was awarded the “game changer” prize for its video compression technology, which creates a resolution four times superior to that of the current Full HD, without compromising the quality of cables that only support HD.
EVS, based in Liège, was also present, following its acquisition of the German Scalable Video System and the French OpenCube at the start of this year . These two companies develop specialised video montage equipment and software capable of improving their respective technologies, and their market share is more than 90%.
The Walloon Export and Foreign Investment Agency (AWEX) also participated in the event for the tenth year running. Thirteen businesses and start-ups were also stationed on their 170 m2 stand, including Image Matters, a company from Liège specialising in the production of 4K video compression cards. “If you look at a map of Europe, you will find that a large number of broadcasting stakeholders are based with us in Wallonia and around our borders in the Netherlands, Britain and Bavaria as well as in France, mainly in Paris and Rennes,” notes Jean-François Nivart, the owner of Image Matters.
Barco Silex was also able to showcase its expertise in UHD video streaming compression while i-Movix achieved a clear success with its slow motion technologies which are predominantly used for broadcasting sports events.
